Indeed this is the sole comprehensive center in the Middle East to meet the community’s growing needs for treatment and diagnosis of cancer.

Innovation has been a hallmark of the Department of Radiation Oncology’s at MLHUMC throughout its history. Established in 1995 it was the earliest pioneer in radiation therapy.

This intensely dynamic department continues to grow in size, activity and stature. It is dedicated to the maintenance of clinical excellence and to the exploration and application of new techniques in the fast changing world of therapeutic oncology.

Special equipment richly complement this sub-specialization of medical talents:

Dedicated CT Sim for treatment planning and simulation
Three Linear Accelerators: one Varian IX with MLCs, one Halcyon and one TrueBeam-STX with Exactrac system from Brainlab (Novalis)
Fully digitized Treatment Planning System using Eclipse for 3D and VMAT treatments, Brainlab Elements software for Brain Frameless Stereotactic Radiosurgery
Complete array of equipment for total body irradiation (TBI) for treatment Quality assurance including RadioSurgery Head Phantom (Steev) and Qualimagiq Software (IsoCBCT and MLCdyn).

Bone Marrow Transplant

Mount Lebanon Hospital University Medical Center is proud to introduce the Bone Marrow Transplant program The BMT Program is nothing but another milestone added to the foundation of healthcare excellence that MLHUMC is always committed to. The introduction of the BMT program places MLHUMC on the list of the best competing healthcare institutions in the region in terms of healthcare innovations and pioneering.

“Autologous” means from yourself. An autologous BMT requires the removal or harvesting of some of your own healthy bone marrow or stem cells at a time when there is no evidence of cancer cells. This bone marrow is then frozen and stored. It will be given back to you, or transplanted after you receive high doses of cancer therapy.

Patients at MLHUMC can now be “rescued” from the effects of high-dose chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments by replacing the destroyed bone marrow.
