Mount Lebanon Hospital is committed to respect and protect the rights of its patients. The hospital will relate to the patients in a way that respects their role in making decisions about their care. Care is given without any discrimination on the basis of religion, sex, race, color, sexual preference, national origin, disability or source of payment.

The hospital will respond to reasonable requests for treatment, and that of course will depend on both the urgency of the situation and the ability of the hospital to provide the kind of treatment the patient’s condition might require.

A Patient at Mount Lebanon Hospital has the right to

  1. Know the name, identity and professional status of the persons providing services and the name of the physician primarily responsible for his care.
  2. Receive complete and current information concerning the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis in terms that he can understand.
  3. Access to all the information contained in his medical record
  4. An explanation in terms that he can understand the proposed procedure, drug or treatment. The explanation should include the possible benefits and risks, potential side effects, potential costs, as well as discussion of alternative available treatment.
  5. Accept or refuse any procedure, drug or treatment and be informed of the consequences of such refusal.
  6. Formulate advance treatment directives and to expect that these directives will be honored provided that these will not go into conflict with the Lebanese law.
  7. Appoint a surrogate decision – maker to make health care decisions.
  8. Personal privacy. Care discussion, consultation, examination and treatment will be conducted discreetly.
  9. Expect that all communications and records related to the care be treated confidentially.
  10. Supportive or palliative care including pain control, treatment of uncomfortable symptoms and spiritual and psychological support in case of terminal illness.
  11. Know about the option of organ, tissue, or eye donation when relevant.
  12. Get additional consultation regarding his care knowing that this may result in additional cost.
  13. Be transferred to another hospital or health care facility, at his request or when medically appropriate and legally permissive. The patient has the right to get a complete explanation concerning the need for and alternatives to such transfer. The facility to which the patient will be transferred must first accept the patient.
  14. Know if the treatment involves research of experimental methods of treatment and the right to accept or refuse to participate.
  15. Voice complaints regarding the treatment and care provided either directly or through the hospital established complaint mechanism without fear of recrimination or penalty.
  16. Expect reasonable continuity of care and be informed by the care givers of realistic care options when hospital care is no more appropriate, and therefore participate in the discharge planning process.
  17. Examine the bill and receive explanation of the charges regardless of the source of payment.

Patient’s Responsabilities

  1. Respect hospital staff, medical personnel and hospital property.
  2. Follow hospital rules and regulations to help ensure the safety and comfort of all patients.
  3. Respect roommate’s and other patient’s rights to privacy and calm. That would include the use of radio, TV and limit the number of visitors respecting the visiting schedule.
  4. Observe the no-smoking hospital policy.
  5. Provide the necessary third party payers information for bill processing, and fulfill the financial obligations as promptly as possible.
